Asics GEL-NYC 2.0 GTX "Graphite Grey": the dark, all-weather take on a Y2K runner

The GEL-NYC is no ordinary retro. When Asics unveiled it in 2023, the Japanese brand built an entirely new silhouette from 2000s running shoes and named it after New York, the city behind the idea. In 2026 the GEL-NYC 2.0 opened a new chapter, with an upper modelled on the GEL-1050 from 2000 and a sole fusing the GEL-1050 and the GEL-LYTE DS II. The GTX badge means style 1203B162-021 also gets a GORE-TEX membrane to handle autumn and winter.

The official Graphite Grey/Black colourway keeps things moody: graphite mesh, suede overlays and black accents that trace the lines inherited from the GEL-1050. Beneath it all, the waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX membrane keeps moisture out. Cushioning pairs FF BLAST PLUS foam, lighter than on the first version, with GEL in the heel, while a TRUSSTIC unit under the arch steadies every step.

Dark and nicely textured, this pair slots straight into a monochrome wardrobe. Wear it with black cargos, washed grey denim, tech joggers or wide tailored trousers, and add a puffer, a windbreaker or a dark trench for a utilitarian city look. Black and graphite also hide splashes, so the trainers still look sharp after a day of showers.
