Asics GEL-NYC 2.0 GTX "Glacier Grey": the New York runner built for wet weather

When the GEL-NYC landed in 2023, Asics did something different: instead of reissuing one archive model, it stitched together parts of several 2000s runners to create a brand-new silhouette named after New York. The second generation, GEL-NYC 2.0, draws on fresh references. Its upper takes its lines from the GEL-1050 of 2000, while the sole blends cues from the GEL-1050 and the GEL-LYTE DS II. The GTX edition, style code 1203B162-020, adds what city life in autumn really needs: proper protection from the rain.

The headline feature is a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX membrane that keeps your feet dry on soaked pavements. The upper mixes mesh with Y2K running-style overlays in the official Glacier Grey/Piedmont Grey colourway, a pale icy grey lifted by slightly deeper grey on the reinforcements. Underfoot, FF BLAST PLUS foam, lighter than on the original GEL-NYC, works with visible GEL units in the heel, and a TRUSSTIC piece under the arch adds stability.

This light grey is easy to style through the colder months. Try it with straight raw denim, stone cargos, grey marl joggers or black technical trousers, then throw on a waterproof shell or a wool overcoat for a city-ready gorpcore look that never tips into hiking-boot territory.
