Sorel x Aries Daystorm Chukka "Tobacco, Velvet": retro warmth with a reworked outdoor edge

It all starts with the Caribou, the iconic winter boot from Sorel, the Canadian brand founded in 1962. The Daystorm family takes that DNA and tunes it for the city, and it is this base that Aries picked for its second collaboration with Sorel, following the 2025 Callsign Horizon. Founded in London by Sofia Prantera, the label has a taste for subculture and subverted everyday objects, an attitude it pours here into a generously proportioned retro chukka.

The Tobacco, Velvet colourway is all about rich materials: a soft full-grain leather upper in deep tobacco brown, a vamp and tongue in short-pile calf hair that catches the light, and a collar trimmed in genuine light shearling that stands out against the brown. Inside sit a leather lining and a removable OrthoLite insole; underneath, a Vibram XS Trek EVO outsole with nostalgic lugs and a full-length rand, a 40 mm heel and a subtly aged heel counter.

This brown version calls for warm tones: camel corduroy, heathered wool trousers, raw denim or a flannel shirt under a suede jacket. The contrast of the pale shearling adds a vintage mountain feel, ideal from autumn right through to the end of winter.

More expressive than its black sibling, this men's Daystorm Chukka is for anyone who loves materials that develop a patina and collaborations with a clear point of view. It sits between outdoor gear and London fashion, and makes a characterful change from everyday trainers.
