Nike Moon Shoe Leather 'University Red': A 1972 Icon Turns Up the Heat

Before the Swoosh became a global symbol, there was the Moon Shoe. Bill Bowerman created this running shoe in 1972, moulding its sole with a repurposed waffle iron for better grip on the track. Only a few pairs were made, most of them going to Olympic athletes, and the model then spent decades in the archive. Its return in late 2025, through a collaboration with Jacquemus, paved the way for the OG retros.

This Nike Moon Shoe leather edition marks a milestone: it is the first version of the retro with an all-leather build. Previous releases relied on a nylon textile base with suede and leather details. Here, a rich University Red covers most of the upper, set against jet black Swooshes on each side, while the gum waffle outsole adds warm vintage character.
