New Balance 574 "Sea Salt": the 1988 classic in its cleanest form

Born in 1988, the New Balance 574 is often called the most New Balance shoe of them all. Designer Steven Smith built it from a stripped-back 576 upper and the sole of an unreleased 577, creating a durable, accessible runner. Decades later it has become the brand's calling card and one of the most recognisable silhouettes in sneaker culture.

The "Sea Salt" colourway keeps things understated with a warm off-white that feels softer than stark white and easier to live with. All the signatures are there: the chunky low profile, the N on the sides, a padded tongue and the ENCAP midsole, which wraps a soft EVA core in a tougher rim beneath the heel for a stable, cushioned stride.

These off-white New Balance 574 trainers are made for real life. Wear them with straight-leg jeans and a grey hoodie for an easy weekend fit, or with chinos and an oxford shirt when the office dress code is relaxed. City walks, gallery visits, travel days: the 574 handles them all in comfort, from morning coffee to late dinners.

A neutral pair like this earns a permanent spot in your rotation. While seasonal hype comes and goes, the 574 "Sea Salt" stays relevant year after year, sitting comfortably alongside the other wardrobe staples. If you are looking for the best New Balance colourway to start with, this one is a strong contender.

Shop the New Balance 574 "Sea Salt" at noirfonce.eu, an official retailer since 2015 and Europe's sneaker destination, in the sizes currently available. Enjoy fast delivery across Europe, secure checkout and the option to pay in instalments.
