Founded in Kobe in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka, Asics takes its name from the Latin motto "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano". Having pioneered cushioning with its GEL technology in 1986, the Japanese brand now mines its archive to create some of the most sought-after lifestyle silhouettes around. The Gel-NYC is the perfect case in point: a genuine archive mashup that channels early-2000s running and the restless energy of New York.

The upper borrows its construction from the Gel-Nimbus 3, layered with overlays and details lifted from the Gel-MC Plus V.
